Slovenia: CouchSurfing, Bled, Waterfall Peričnik, Kamen Castle
I picked up my CouchSurfing guest Sinéad in Bled and we went on a rainy drive around the lake and then we headed towards the Waterfall Peričnik.
The Peričnik Waterfall is a remnant of the ice age during which the largest glacier valley Vrata on the north side of the Julian Alps was shaped, a beautiful valley stretching from Mojstrana to the foothills of the North face of Triglav.
You can take a photo of the waterfall from every direction
We continued towards the ruins of Kamen Castle.
The castle was built in the twelfth century by the counts of Ortenburg, however, they chose not to live there, and so the castle was managed by castellans. In 1418, the castle came into the possession of the counts of Cilli, and subsequently fell into the hands of the Lambergs in 1436. The most distinguished member of the Lamberg family to come from Kamen Castle was Gašper Lambergar, a tournament knight who is sung about in the folk poem Pegam and Lambergar. |
Kamen Castle is a participant in the Path of Venus – the European castle network. The network links the towns and castles in Slovenia, Austria, Italy and the Czech Republic through which the knight and poet Ulrich von Liechtenstein travelled in the thirteenth century. |
