Slovenia: Cycling around Dolenjska

With Nada I used the Sunday for cycling in Dolenjska (Lower Carniola) region and we decided to find a couple of geocaches on the way. We started from Novo mesto and continued on the hilly area towards Kostanjevica na Krki and then on the shortest and flat way back.

Our first cache of the day next to St. Mathias church in Zajčji Vrh.

Not the best bicycle for this terrain

Pleterje Charterhouse, a Carthusian monastery, or charterhouse, in the village of Drča near Šentjernej in Slovenia, the only extant monastery of that order in the country.

River Krka at our farthest point

New adventure for Black Beauty

Our last geocache took us to an old Willow tree, known as Napoleon's willow. It is known from oral tradition the willow was planted in early 19th century under Napoleon to unknown soldier grave. Interesting tree has unusual growth, thick trunk and testifying value.

Slovenia: Horseback riding and Cycling

The last birthday present was fulfilled today. Nada secretly took me to Zgornji Otok and told me that we will go riding. This time a horse. Ranč Vihar (Ranch Storm) was a place, where they gave us the horses and a guide Petra, that took us on a nice ride through the neigbourhood.

Tnx for the present Nada! Photo by the Waterfall Peračica. This waterfall is the only waterfall in Andesitic Tuff in Slovenia and therefore the greatest natural treasure at Brezje Peace Trail.

2 hours of horseback riding around Zgornji Otok

We decided to do more riding afterwards, so we just switched the horse for a bicycle. We drove to Bled from where we started ascending towards Pokljuka and from there down to Lake Bohinj, where we stopped for a beer, that gave us enough energy to return back to Angelca (my Toyota Auris).

Somewhere on Pokljuka plateau, after ascending for 700 m

Close to our starting point, Lake Bled

Quick refreshment in the lake.

Nice round trip nearby Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj

The day ended with a nice fish dinner. I took the biggest responsibility here and I added the garlic in the end.

Our sport and cultural society ŠKD Indijanci went on a thirty-third morning hike (43rd overall). We started with the hike from Zgornje Jezersko to our destination Visoki vrh nad Jezerskim, 1459 m. We continued to next peak called  Javornik nad Jezerskim, 1399 m, followed by the descent to our starting point.

Slovenia: Hiking day: Ukanc - Vogel - Rodica - Črna Prst - Bohinjska Bistrica

This hike has been in our plans for a couple of months and we should've done it yesterday, but the bad weather stopped us, so Rok and me decided to do it today. We started hiking at 5 a.m. from Ukanc and after 3 hours we were on our first peak, Vogel, 1922 m. After a short break we continued on the ridge to our next and highest peak of the day, Rodica, 1966 m, where we met the first person today. We ate a little bit and continued to Črna Prst, 1844 m. After 7 hours of hiking it was time for a beer in a hut named after Zorko Jelinčič, a member of one of the first anti-fascist resistance movements in Europe called TIGR (Trst (Trieste), Istra (Istria), Gorica (Gorizia) and Reka (Rijeka)). It was active between 1927 and 1941. We continued with the descent to Bohinjska Bistrica, from where we took the bus to our starting point.

We left the low lands and the fog

We helped the owners at Planina Zadnji Vogel to move the cows in the stables.

Finally our first peak, Vogel

There was still some snow on certain places

It's a long way behind us. We came from the peak that is covered with clouds. Still a lot to in front of us.

Rodica, highest peak of the day

A place where you definitely can't get lost

Our last peak Črna Prst with a view to Lake Bohinj

We descended on educational trail to Orožnova koča na planini za Liscem mountain hut and continued to Bohinjska Bistrica

With bus back to our starting point

Slovenia: Motorcycle ride with my guests from Netherlands & Belgium

Weather forecast was quite bad for the Alps region therefore I prepared the ride to the coast of Slovenia. Robert, Saad, David and me quickly took a look at two of nicest Slovenian permanent lakes, Bled and Bohinj and then we continued South to our 46.6 kilometres long coast, where we had lunch in Piran. Since they had a reservation in the evening in Austria we continued back North through Trst (Trieste, Italy) back to the Alps. The roads became wet and soon it started to rain so we stopped after Predil Pass and said goodbye to each-other. I continued back home and Robert, David and Saad to their designated place in Austria.

Our first stop was Lake Bled with an island and a castle

Quick stop in Ribčev Laz on the shore of Lake Bohinj. We were riding Aprilia RSV 1000 R, Yamaha FZ6 S2 and two Triumph Speed Triples.

Slovenia: Guest from Netherlands & Belgium

An old CouchSurfing friend Robert was doing a motorbike ride with his two friends (David and Saad) around Europe and they decided to stay at my place too. We met in the afternoon and after a welcome drink we watched the Group B of the 2014 FIFA World Cup match between Netherlands and Chile. "Our" guys easily won 2:0.
