Gift for my birthday from my friends Katja, Tanja, Petra, Borut and Dejan warmed me up in the morning. Thank you!

Misty morning

2 hours of riding from home to work

The return was much more difficult, because I had many stops on the way like lunch with Bodlaj and Golmajer families, beer with  friends, ...

Slovenia: Weekly Hike: Pirčev vrh - Dom na Kisovcu mountain hut - Sveti Peter in Primož

Our sport and cultural society ŠKD Indijanci went on a twenty-ninth morning hike (38th overall). Our destination was Pirčev vrh above Kamnik. We parked our car in Praprotno and started with the hike. We reached the 1373 m high paek quite quickly and because it was quite cold and windy, we started with the descent after a short photo session. Well, it was not that short, because the camera didn't stand still on my walking stick because of the wind and we needed 5 attempts for a picture. The return was made over Planina Kisovec, 1275 m, and past two churches, first one dedicated to Saints Primus and Felician and the second one to Saint Peter.

Another fire salamander

On top of Pirčev vrh we had a photo session. Attendees: Peter, Grega, Vlado, Rok and Tuši

Spare parts if you need it

For a while we were off track

At work me and Rok used our lunch break for a quick geocache nearby. It was a mystery cache, that was quite easy.

Slovenia / Austria: Motorbiking and Geocaching Day

After a difficult Saturday it was time for an easy Sunday. Nada and me took the Blue Horse and we went for a ride. First we crossed the boarder and did some riding in Austrian Carinthia, we continued in Slovenian Styria and ended back home in Upper Carniola.

Riding through Sele Fara (Zell Pfarre)

Time for the first stop at our first Geocache place of the day @ Muri Quelle/Spring/Vrelec

It took us some time to find it

Our road continued over Pavlič Pass (Pavličevo sedlo) to Logar valley (Logarska dolina)

At the end of the valley we visited one of the tallest waterfalls in Slovenia, waterfall Rinka, with its drop of 105 metres and the longest step of 90 m.

View from under the waterfall Rinka

The third geocache of the day took us to this beautiful spot

The location of the last geocache was close to more then 250 year old water-powered mill, called Žagarski mlin (Žagar's mill). Žagar's mill is the only operating watermill in the upper part of Savinja valley. Before Second World War there were almost twenty mills in Luče and nearby villages, unfortunately, due to electrification and technological progress these mills were no longer economically viable, so they were all getting ruined. Žagar 's mill was registered in time of Maria Theresa, which means that mill is at least 250 years old.

The day was over after 190 kilometres

Happy Youth Day!
Today we found 4 geocaches:
- Muri Quelle, GCQNFH
- Virnik Quelle, GCQNFN
- Logarska dolina / Logar Valley, GC51J5A
- Žagerski mlin/Žager's mill, GC3WPY8

Slovenia: Recreational BD Party

This year I organized a recreational party for my birthday. Our first goal was to conquer Dom na Zelenici mountain hut and attendees had a chance to decide how. First option was with a bicycle and they had an honour to be with me. John, Katja, Tanja, Borut, Aleš and Boštjan joined me on this trip.

Lake Završnica is a reservoir, artificially dammed lake in the valley below the mountain Stol (2236 m) in the Karawanks.

Lake lies at an altitude of 640 meters, has an area of 2.5 ha and a maximum depth of 10 m. From this point on we had the hardest part in front of us.

Horses near the lake.

On our way up we helped to move the stove at Smokuška planina.

At our destination, Dom na Zelenici mountain hut, 1536 m, the second group joined us. Aleš, Andreja, Klara, Matic, Vid, Tim, Danica, Nada, Primož, Blaž, Saška and Vlado hiked up from Ljubelj.

Downhill time (John and Borut)

Bikers: Tanja, Katja, Aleš, Borut, Tuši, John and Boštjan @ Koča Vrtača mountain hut, 1288 m, half way down

Guess who broke the bicycle again? This time it was only a tube, which was quickly fixed with 2 patches.

Bicycle tour (43.23 km, 6:12:58, ↑1.291 m): Podljubelj - Brezje pri Tržiču - Rodine - Žirovnica - Smokuška planina - Koča pri izviru Završnice mountain hutDom na Zelenici mountain hut - Podljubelj

Photos from recreational part

In the afternoon we switch from recreational part to relaxing one. Katja and John left us, one for Brezje pri Tržiču, one for Whitby, New Zealand. Me and others went into the forest, where my mum has a small hut and we started warming up a prepared goulash and while we were waiting we had a couple of refreshing drinks.

Bringing the goods to the hut was an important task

Food, drinks, good company, party...

Blowing the first candle for 18th birthday.

Party photos. Thanks to all for presents and attending.

Slovenia: Hike with SKD Indijanci to Gradišče (Velika planina)

My friend and co-worker John came from New Zealand to Slovenia and with some others we decided to have a hike to Velika planina. The herdsmen's settlement on Velika planina is one of the few settlements of this size in Europe. Its distinctive architecture became a sort of a symbol of this mountain plateau.

The herdsmen were farmers used to a traditional way of life. A six-day workweek was followed by Sunday’s rest, which always included attending Sunday’s mass and socializing. This was partly the reason why the Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows was built in the herdsmen’s settlement on Velika planina in 1939. In the Second World War the chapel along with 100 other wooden dwellings were burnt down. The new chapel was built in 1988 and is particularly known for its Christmas Eve midnight mass.

Velika planina is a part of the Kamnik-Savinja alpine range, rising high above the Kamniška Bistrica valley. It is Slovenia’s largest highland pasture, extending over 557 hectares at the altitude between 1,400 and 1,668 metres.

Roofs are covered with pine shingles, called “šinkel” or "skodla".

On top of Gradišče, 1666 m, we had a quick break for some food and drinks.

Atendees: Rok, Grega, John, Primož, Tuši, Nejc, Peter and Goran

Descent was made on a western track with a stop for hydration in Domžalski dom na Mali planini mountain hut, 1534 m.
