Slovenia: With AO Tržič to Kukova špica

Alpine section Tržič organized a climbing expedition to Kukova špica, 2427 m, and it was easy enough, so they invited us, trainees, to come along. Kukova špica is a mountain in Martuljek Group and it stands as the first high mountain on the eastern side of the group. It is sharp, rocky pyramid, from Gorenjska plane people often think they're looking at Špik, the most famous cone peak in the group.

We met in Bistrica pri Tržiču at 5:15 a.m. and at 6:00 a.m. we started with the hike from scree called Plaz Črlovec at the altitude 820 m.

After a 2 hours of hiking we left the path and started with easy climbing

Climbing became more difficult and we had to use the protection ropes

We successfully reached the top. On the photo Klemen (my co-climber), Domen, Metod and Tuši

Slovenia: Weekly Recreation: Šmarna Gora with Bicycle and on Foot

Our sport and cultural society ŠKD Indijanci went on a fiftieth morning hike (61st overall) and this was the last one in a period of one year and because of that, we made it a little bit different. We chose the same destination as the first time, Šmarna gora, 669 m, but we decided to conquer it twice, first time with the bicycles and the second time on foot. At the top our society ŠKD Indijanci served us with hot tea and sandwiches.

Ljubljana was still covered with fog

Slovenia: Hike to Trdinov vrh

After the breakfast in Bela krajina (White Carniola), Nada and me decided to do a hike to Trdinov vrh, 1178 m.

On our way to the starting point of our hike we stopped at Kal Grabrna (Pond Grabrna) in Dolnja Lokvica. The pond is the work of human hands and is now one of the few still preserved ponds in Bela Krajina.

After a short detour we parked our car in Gabrje, from where we started the hike. Our fist destination was Planinski dom pri Gospodični mountain hut, 822 m, and after a short photo session we continued towards the top.

Gospodična spring, which will return your energy and youth. Average flow is 5 l/min.

The peak lies at the border between Slovenia and Croatia. Croatia have a chapel dedicated to Sveti Ilija (Saint Elijah).

On the Slovenian side we have a Church dedicated to Sveta Jera (Saint Gertrude). The church was first mentioned in a document in 1447. Today only the ruins are visible. Above the ruins the new roof was built in 2012.

The communication tower on the top of Trdinov vrh. The peak was originally called Sveta Gera in Croatian and Sveta Jera in Slovenian (Mount St. Gertrude) after the 15th-century church of Saint Gertrude some hundred meters from the highest point of the peak. In 1923, however, the president of the Novo Mesto Mountaineering Club Ferdinand Seidl proposed to rename it after Janez Trdina, an ardent describer of the region. On 15 August 1923, the peak was ceremonially renamed by a Slovene girl, while the accompanying ecclesiastic rituals were performed by a Croatian priest.

Slovenia: Bicycle ride to Kofce & Wedding

In the morning I still had some free time and I used it for cycling, but it started very bad. I was all set for an adventure, but when I saw my bike, I realized we won't come far. My Black Mamba had a flat tyre. Since my patches were stolen with the previous bike, Snow White, I had to call my neighbour and luckily he had them. I patched the holes and at around 9 a.m. we started riding towards Tržič. I double checked the tyre and all was OK, so we continued through Dovžan Gorge to Jelendol.

Short break

My destination, Kofce

Slovenia: First ride with Black Mamba

My new bike, Black Mamba, has been waiting or the first real ride for more than a day and today, after work, we made our first adventure. We attacked the hill, near my house, with a finish at Koča na Prevalu mountain hut at 1311 m. After a photo session we descended on Baron Born's path to Ljubelj and from there on the old gravel road back home.

The road winds up on the slopes of Begunjščica, 2060 m
