Croatia: Cycling from Samobor to Japetić and back

After a year I visited my cousin Hrc and his family again and also this year we went cycling together. This time we rode with mountain bikes to the west of Samobor, visiting some nice hilly places in Nature Park Žumberak - Samoborsko gorje.

Slovenia: Cycling around Ljubljana

Another day cycling to work, with a nice exception. Since Nada had some work around Ljubljana, I decided to cycle there too, through some villages and in the end she just picked me up.

Slovenia: Weekend in Bovec: Day 3 - Hike to Rombon, Chill-out in Soča

For my Birthday I received a coupon for Canyoning in Fratarica and this weekend I decided to redeem it. Since it was a 5 hour event only, Nada, Rok and me decided to spend the whole weekend in Bovec area, doing various things.

On Sunday, our last day, we conquered Rombon, 2208 m high mountain. Off course we chose a bit more difficult way there, over Vrh Ribežnov, 2018 m, with grassy and from time to time pathless terrain. Anyway, we made it and after a couple of photos we descended down, past more WW1 fortifications to Veliki Rob, 1313 m, the position of the Austro Hungarian artillery observatory. From there we just continued down past Fort Herman to Kluže Fortress, where our car was waiting for us.

Quickly we moved to the shop in Bovec, where we took care of our hydration needs and continued to Camp Gabrje, where we relaxed in Soča river with a couple of nice cold beers.

Slovenia: Weekend in Bovec: Day 2 - Canyoning in Fratarica, Hiking

For my Birthday I received a coupon for Canyoning in Fratarica and this weekend I decided to redeem it. Since it was a 5 hour event only, Nada, Rok and me decided to spend the whole weekend in Bovec area, doing various things.

Our 2nd day we visited the creek Fratarica with our guide Martin. Starting in the Loška stena snowfield, there are over 22 waterfalls in the course of the stream running towards Log pod Mangartom. The most famous is the 48 m Parabola waterfall in the lower section of the stream. Canyoning itself was great, cca 3 hours long, with many slides, jumps and rappelling. Totally in for another try somewhere else.

After canyoning we hiked to Planina Goričica from Fortress Kluže, which will be the starting point of our Sunday hike to Rombon, 2208 m. On our way we saw many remains of WW1, when the Italian-Austrian front (Battles of the Isonzo) crossed through the valley as the battle cut from north to south.

Good morning

To be able to go down, we had to hike upwards first, also passing by parabola waterfall, 48 m.

We came back safe and sound

Before the hike we visited one of the monuments dedicated to WW1 soldiers

Fort Hermann (also known as the Upper Kluže fort, the Hermann fortification) was built between 1897 and 1900 by Austro-Hungarians. During World War One it sustained severe damage under heavy shelling from the Italian side.

Slovenia: Weekend in Bovec: Day 1 - Climbing in Kegl

For my Birthday I received a coupon for Canyoning in Fratarica and this weekend I decided to redeem it. Since it was a 5 hour event only, Nada, Rok and me decided to spend the whole weekend in Bovec area, doing various things.

On our first day, our plan was to do some climbing. We visited Kegl, small local crag.

Jezernica - Rio del Lago

GeoCachers in action near Fort Predel. On 15th May 1809 a fierce battle took place between Napoleon’s Armada and the Austrian defenders. The border regiment of Austrian - Croatian soldiers (from Slunj) was under the command of captain Johann von Hermannsdorf and in spite of the enemy's superiority, the defenders bravely warded off all the attacks and did not answer the call to surrender.
