Slovenia: Afternoon hike to Kofce

As I was home quite early I put on my hiking gear, drove to Matizovec and started hiking.

Nice red sky made me to take a break and take some photos

Sunset over Šentanski vrh, 1635 m

Veliki vrh was not my destination.

Not today. The hut at the top was closed as expected today.

Another sunset with the moon, this one from Kofce

ŠKD Indijanci - Hike #6

In the evening I wrote my first PHP script. It can be used to copy the files (photos) taken after sunrise and below sunset to a designated folder. It is useful if you download pictures with a script every x minutes and name them correctly.

And the script looks like this:

/* calculate the sunrise time for Kredarica, Slovenia
Latitude: 46.37826 North
Longitude: 13.84901East
Zenith ~= 90
offset: +1 GMT
*/

/*Change input parameters: input_folder, output_folder.
Works on filenames with structure: YYYY*MM*DD*HH*MM?, where * is a single character and ? can be a string. */

$latitude=46.37826;
$longitude=13.84901;
$zenith=90;
$offset=1;
$DATE=date("Y_m_d-H_i");
$copied_files=0;

$input_folder  = "/mnt/storage/private/tomaz_weather_station/fetched_photos";
$output_folder = "/mnt/storage/private/www_photos/Zelenica/out";

$filenamelist  = scandir($input_folder);

//print_r($filenamelist);
echo "Starting script!". PHP_EOL. "Files found: ". count($filenamelist). PHP_EOL;
foreach ($filenamelist as $value) {
$year=substr($value,0,4);
$month=substr($value,5,2);
$day=substr($value,8,2);
$hour=substr($value,11,2);
$minute=substr($value,14,2);
$photo_taken=strtotime("$year-$month-$day $hour:$minute");
$sunrise = date_sunrise(strtotime("$year-$month-$day"), SUNFUNCS_RET_TIMESTAMP, $latitude, $longitude, $zenith, $offset);
$sunset  = date_sunset(strtotime("$year-$month-$day"), SUNFUNCS_RET_TIMESTAMP, $latitude, $longitude, $zenith, $offset);
if ($photo_taken >= $sunrise and $photo_taken <= $sunset) {
copy("$input_folder/$value", "$output_folder/$value");
$copied_files++;
} else {
}
}
echo "Files copies: ". $copied_files. PHP_EOL;
?>

Slovenia: Weekly Hike: Jeterbenk

Our sport and cultural society ŠKD Indijanci went on a third morning hike (5th overall). Our destination this time was Jeterbenk, 774 m. 4 guys and 1 dog (Hera), successfully conquered the top. The destination also offers a legend about the treasure of Jeterbenk's knights and it goes like this:
When Marjeta Hertenberch wanted to build the church of St. Marjeta, she somehow heard that there is a treasure form her ancestors under the old Jetrbenk fortress. She found a big pot with fortune. Because she couldn’t lift it by herself she called the blacksmiths to make strong and long chains to lift the treasure. With the help of oxen they began to lift it. When the people, helping to lift the treasure, saw the amount of gold they wanted to get the half. In affect, the chain broke, because of their thoughts, but fortunately there were two chains. Marjeta Hertenberg wanted to give the money for the church but when she saw the gold, she also wanted to keep the half for herself. Because of that, the second chain also broke and the whole treasure fell down again into the depths and got covered with stones and rocks. The treasure was never found again, and probably lies there till today.

Slovenia: Afternoon hike to Grunt and Ljubelj Pass

After work I decided to do a quick hike close to my home. Since there are many options I decided to go towards Planina Korošica, but when I reached the point, where I should turn right, I just went straight up, where the border with Austria is, Grunt, as the locals call it. From there I followed the snowy, dirty and slippery track to Koča na Ljubelju mountain hut and from there back down to the car.

I parked just below the border with Austria

Grunt, 1590 m, my highest point

Slovenia: 6th Wine Trail In The Tunnels Under The Old Kranj

I went with some friends and co-workers to the event called Wine trail in the tunnels under the old Kranj. Wineries from all over Slovenia exhibit their wines on more then 30 places in the tunnels and by purchasing the ticket you are allowed to test all of them. Great thing worth another visit.

History of The tunnels of Kranj:
Underneath the town of Kranj there are numerous artificial underground facilities that have long ago lost their original purpose and slipped into oblivion, but invite us as works of human hands in a peculiar way to uncover their story. Among them, the most interesting one is the 1300-meter long town air raid shelter, built during the German occupation in the conglomerate promontory on which the old town Kranj stands. Its construction started just before the Second World War and was then restarted in 1944 because of the imminent allied bombing. The work was carried out by two renowned construction companies of Kranj, the company of Josip Slavec and the company of Josip Dedek. The shelter is an important reminder of such construction and a witness of the technical heritage of Kranj during the the war. Access to the Tunnels of Kranj: from the Jelen slope and the canyon of Kokra, behind the Prešeren theatre and below Pungart.

You can also check this broshure.

Slovenia: Weekly Hike: Toško Čelo

Our sport and cultural society ŠKD Indijanci went on a third morning hike (4th overall). Our destination this time was Toško Čelo, 590 m. Since the terrain is very difficult and was sometimes used by the military, we had a guide with military experience with us and he successfully led us through all the traps. We all came back safe and sound. Thanks for joining us.

We did it in a little less than 2 hours, still 1h 45 min was not reachable this time.

Atendees: Vlado, Primož, Tuši, Zoki and Grega

Like in good old times

On our way down we also picked up remains of the Subaru

Slovenia: Hike: Levstik's Trail: From Litija to Čatež

After a very short night I took the train from Podnart to Litija with my friends Aleš, Rok, Primož and Danica. In Litija Aleš and Ana joined us and we started the hike.

First hikers started  the 27th annual hiking event on the Levstik path from Litija to Čatež at 6 a.m. Despite bad weather, around 4000 hikers from all over Slovenia took part in walking the Levstik path. The 22 km journey from Litija to Čatež is one of the most popular hiking events in Slovenia.The trail was described by Fran Levstik in his travelogue “The Journey from Litija to Čatež”.

Since we started a bit late, we needed the whole day, still we didn't reach the end due to bad weather, nevertheless we were close to the finish line, therefore we will need to do the Levstik's Trail again next year.

In Litija, before the start, we crossed the Sava river

Mandatory equipment for the trail

Cloudy weather didn't stop us

Leaves on the trail

One of many stops on the way, where you can buy refreshments, usually home made ones

One man down

We lost 3 of them, so only 4 left on the picture

I think I hurt my ankle here. Not sure though.

Another energy boost

Demanding 22 kilometres, still we didn't totally finish it, so we will have to come back next year
