New Zealand: Day 24: Port Waikato - Glenbrook - Waitakere Ranges Regional Park

Rain stopped for a while in the morning so I quickly put the tent together and loaded the luggage back on the motorbike and there I was, On The Road Again (click to listen the song).

Camp-site in Port Waikato

Bird posing on a tree in Waikato river, with the length of 425 kilometres, the longest river in New Zealand. The name Waikato comes from the Māori language and translates as flowing water.

Last bridge over Waikato river before it flows into the Tasman Sea

Local weather station in Waiuku

I visited i-Site Visitor center in Arataki, where I receive plenty of useful information and made a camp-site reservation

Lachlan McLachlan monument and a nearby beach in fog

Huia Lookout point, an idea of Sir Harvey Turner

20 minute "climb" to Mount Donald McLean, 390 m, where I should have a great view. Maybe next time. Mount was named after a colonial figure in 1853, that was head of the Native Land Purchase Department when the Waitakere Ranges were purchased by the crown.

Spragg monument and hope for better weather. The monument was unveiled on 17 March 1920. It was erected by Wesley Spragg to the memory of his son, Wesley Neal Spragg and all the other New Zealand soldiers who lost their lives in the Great War.

With Sonja we arrived to our destination, Karekare

Karekare Falls is an attractive 25m waterfall found near Karekare Beach, which was one of the filming locations of the movie "The Piano."

Port Waikato - Glenbrook - Waitakere Ranges Regional Park. Scenic Drive is a really good road for a motorbike.
