Slovenia: Hike & Fly - Begunjščica

Begunjščica is also great take off site for paragliders, so I convinced Nada to join me on a hike to the summit. We started from Ljubelj and over Dom na Zelenici mountain hut we conquered the peak of Begunjščica, 2060 m.

Hike with heavy backpack.

Our first stop was at Dom na Zelenici, 1536 m.

We continued over the scree under Begunjščica.

Some less known peaks North from Dom na Zelenici mountain hut.

Continuing in direction West.

Some of the peaks: Na Možeh, Vrh Ljubeljščice, Spodnji Plot, Košutica, Veliki vrh.

In the area, where the sun don't shine in Winter time.

View to Vrtača.

Smelling the Sun.

Different world on the other side of the mountain.

Sharing the sky with the birds.

At the top of Begunjščica, 2060 m.

Nada with the highest peak of the Karawanks and Julian Alps.

Nada and Tuši on top of Begunjščica.

Enjoying the view.

Vrtača, Zelenjak and Palec with Suho Ruševje.

Towards the windy take off point. It became windy earlier as the weather forecast promised.

Time for lunch.

Checking the conditions.

Setting up the glider.

I gave up and decided to go to another point, hopefully with less turbulent wind.

Towards Begunjska Vrtača.

Conditions were much better.

One by one people started launching.

Some headed towards Radovljica, others towards Podljubelj.

After 2nd attempt I was also airborne.

Flying home.

Above our house with the landing area.

The village of Podljubelj.

Above the main road leading to Austria.

Saying hi to my neighbours.
