Australia: Day 07: Road Trip From Sydney To Canberra

Wyatt and me started our road trip to Canberra. He was invited to National Portrait Gallery by Daniel Arnaldi, who took a portrait of him and participated in the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2013. In the end I was also lucky, since Wyatt invited me too. We left Sydney day before the event and we had a nice road trip all the way to Canberra, where we already found a CouchSurfer Adam, who will host us for two days.

Driving through Royal National Park

My driver Wyatt in Toyota Corolla

Our first stop at Stanwell Tops Lookout at Bald Hill, where a monument dedicated to Lawrence Hargrawe is. He was an engineer, explorer, astronomer, inventor and aeronautical pioneer.

Our second stop was Kiama, where we checked the Kiama Blowhole (top left) and the local Kiama Lighthouse (top right). We also used this opportunity and had a snack by the coast.

After a few kilometres we stopped in Kangaroo Valley, near St. Joseph's church.

Hampden Bridge in Kangaroo Valley is 77 m long suspension bridge and is the only surviving suspension bridge from the colonial period in New South Wales. Watch the film about Hampden Bridge on this link.

Parking @ Fitzroy Falls

We continued towards Fitzroy Falls in Morton National Park. The termite mound on the picture is home to half a million or so milk termites (Coptotermes lacteus).

Road Trip from Sydney to Canberra

We arrived to Adam's place near Canberra, ACT quite late, so we were soon in our beds.
