Croatia: Summer Vacation, Day 6: Hike Across The Velebit - Stage 4 - From Skorpovac to Baške Oštarije

Velebit is the largest mountain range in Croatia, stretching for about 145 kilometers along the Adriatic coast, separating the coastal region from the interior of the country and Nada, Bronco and me decided to hike from its start at Vratnik pass to an end, peak Crnopac, above Zrmanja river, where it transitions into the Dalmatian hinterland.

On our fourth day we woke up in a nice shelter Skorpovac, we started the fire and started cooking our breakfast. One of the shortest stages was ahead of us and this one will take us back to civilization, to Baške Oštarije. Besides that, we only enjoyed in the scenery along the way. When we arrived to Hostel "Baške Oštarije", Nada and Bronco were quite exhausted with their feet blistered, so they decided to abort with the journey, therefore we needed a few logistic rearrangements. Since the car was waiting in Gračac, Nada hitch-hiked to that city, while Bronco and me did a short afternoon hike to Jelarje. In the evening we all regrouped and bonded with a group of Croatians doing a mountain guide course, along with my friend Igor. Cheers guys.

Previous days of our Summer Vacation 2024: Day 5 - 16210,  Day 4 - 16209, Day 3 - 16208, Day 2 - 16207 and Day 1 - 16206.

While the boss was still in bed, I started the fire.

Shelter Skorpovac was like a five star hotel for us.

Yes, we signed in.

Back on Premužić trail.

The gate back to civilization.

After 4 days of hiking, we still had smiles on our faces.

Posing for Nada's camera.

I made a short detour to Butinovača, 1127 m, where the view opened even more.

On the summit I searched for a geocache.

View to the Adriatic with island Pag.

While I was on my detour hike, Nada and Bronco enjoyed in the shade.

Hello horses.

The path was wider and wider.

Horses and some peaks to conquer for the next time.

A little past noon we finished the Premužić trail, just after Bronco barked goodbye to horses.

Rehydration.

Food, but not out of our backpacks.

We sent Nada to Gračac to pick up the car, while we did a quick afternoon hike.

Seaside.

At the summit of Jelarje, 1173 m.

Bronco and Tuši.

Our fourth day on Velebit.

Geocaches found (all received a visit by trackable items "MissJenn’s 5 Cents", TB9K7R9 and "Second Angel of peace", TBA8B55):
- Butinovača (1127 m), GC77FMY
- Jelarje (1173 m), GC8V9DM
