Slovenia: Dolenjska

After work I started driving towards Dolenjske Toplice, where Nada is spending her rehabilitation days after the ACL reconstruction. On the way I stopped at one of the World War 2 monuments. When I arrived to the spa, I picked up Nada, and together we explored Trška gora, a wine area above Novo mesto. Dinner back in the rehabilitation centre was almost ready, so I took Nada back to the spa, while I did a short hike & fly trip to Sveti Peter.

Visiting the WW2 monument in Šahovec.

Short walk with geocaching on Trška gora.

The bench that was named the princes' bench, where you can enjoy the view of Novo mesto valley, Gorjanci and Kočevski Rog.

Trška gora is a hill that rises 428 meters above sea level. It's covered with vineyards and traditional wine cottages (called zidanica), in fact it has the largest concentration of wine cottages in the world.

In front of the church there are four old linden trees. The oldest and mightiest of them has a circumference of no less than 830 centimetres. It is estimated to be more than four hundred years old, and is the thickest linden of Dolenjska.

The summit of Trška gora is crowned with the pilgrimage Church of the Nativity of Mary, which was built in 1623.

Monument to Lojze Slak, one of the pioneers of Slovene popular folk music, based on diatonic button accordion and author of several evergreen songs, on Trška gora.

Krka, with 95 kilometres, the second-longest river flowing in its entirety in Slovenia.

The name Krka was first attested in written sources in 799 as Corca (and as Gurke in 1025, and in Gurka fluvio in 1249). The Slovene name is derived from Slavic *Kъrka, based on the Romance name *Corcra or *Corca, derived in turn from Corcora. Many rivers had this name, or similar names, in antiquity. The name is believed to be of pre-Romance origin and may be based on onomatopoeia.

On my way to the take off site Sveti Peter on Straški hrib.

Very nice take off site, unfortunately with a lot of wind in the back. Well, I guess I will just have to run faster.

The wing is ready and I had a nice flight - Garmin Connect.
