Slovenia: Hiking in TNP in Triglav Lakes Valley, Day 1

A two day trip in the mountains has been in our minds for quite some time and this weekend we finally found the time to execute it. With Nada we drove to Koča pri Savici mountain hut, 653 m, where it was still raining a bit, still we started to walk with our heavy backpacks via Komarča towards our first destination, The lake Črno jezero, 1294 m.

First milestone was done, a lot to go

Search for a GeoCache near The lake Črno jezero, 7th lake in the valley, was unsuccessful.

We continued in Triglav Lakes Valley to Dvojno jezero (Double Lake), 5th and 6th lake in the valley. The valley is also called the Seven Lakes Valley (Dolina sedmerih jezer), although there are ten and not seven lakes in the valley. It is above the tree line and is geologically Alpine karst; therefore it has also been termed the Sea of Stone Valley (Dolina kamnitega morja).

The 5th lake

At Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih mountain hut, 1685 m, we had a small break for food and then we continued to Ledvica (Kidney) Lake (Jezero v Ledvici), the biggest of the lakes, 1830 m.

Weather still wasn't good, but we knew it will get better

Flora on the way

This is where we are going. Veliko Špičje, 2398 m.

As we predicted, the weather was getting better and we can also see the ridge, that we will walk on tomorrow.

Snake, Black Viper

It was very warm at the top. Unfortunately the majority of the sign-in books are full or wet on our trips.

360 degree view from the top. Check here for interactive panorama.

Somewhere from Veliko Špičje to Malo Špičje

Another panorama with The lake Jezero v Ledvicah and peaks for tomorrow (Velika Zelnarica, 2320 m, Mala Zelnarica, 2310 m, Kopica, 2190 m, Velika Tičarica, 2091 m and Mala Tičarica, 2071 m).

An optical phenomenon called Glory

Lonely

Just before sunset we reached our destination, Zasavska koča na Prehodavcih mountain hut, 2071 m, where we decided to stay over the night in the winter bivouac. A lot of people had the same intentions, so we were lucky, that the room was big enough for all of us.

The water spring was between the hut and the first lake, "Jezero pod Vršacem", 1993 m.

On the way I saw some wild goats (Alpine Ibex) and they weren't afraid at all.

Good night

After the sunset it became very cold and after a huge dinner, that was supposed to reduce the weight in our backpacks and a beer we went to bed.
