Czech Republic: Pramen Vltavy - The source of the Vltava

We started another cycling day in Černá v Pošumaví. Today we finalised our main goal, that is to cycle from confluence of Vltava and Elbe river to the source of the Vltava. 430 kilometres long river, the longest within the Czech Republic, has been seen from many angles. In the end, we also adjusted our plans a little bit. Our plan, to cycle back home over Austria was changed, and we decided to return back with a bus from Prague and enjoy three more day in less expensive and beer friendly Czech Republic.

In 1956 the chapel and the stations were destroyed, but they rebuild them back in the beginning of this century.

We reached the goal of our trip, Pramen Vltavy.

 

The source of the Vltava is located about 5.5 km southwest of the village Kvilda in Šumava, 600 meters from the border with Germany. Around the spring there is a natural monument of the same name Spring of the Vltava.

 

The spring is only a symbolic place. There are more real springs and they are located high in the inaccessible terrain of the southeastern slope of Černá hora.
