Czech Republic: Cycling from Český Krumlov to Černá v Pošumaví

After the easy day on the kayak, Nada and me continued with cycling along the Vltava. The whole day trip, with a stop in Lipno, took us to Černá v Pošumaví.

Previous days of our Czech cycling trip: Day 6Day 5Day 4Day 3Day 2Day 1.

After we visited Marvin B. Nelson WWII monument, we continued to Rožmberk nad Vltavou.

Rožmberk Castle above the Vltava meander.

Vyšší Brod Monastery (Vyšebrodský klášter) is one of the most important historical landmarks of South Bohemia.

One of the most famous rock sites - Čertova stěna - Devil's wall -  is situated above the Vltava. We had to stop to see it.

Czech fashion by Nada.

The legend says: The Devil disagreed with the construction of the monastery in Vyšší Brod. He wanted to create a dike in the valley which would hold the water and flood the monastery. He threw large boulders into the river Vltava. The work had to be finished before the cock crowed three times. The Devil was unsuccessful; after the third crow of the black cock, his power evaporated. The bell at the monastery rang and the Devil had to let go of the stone he was holding. You can still see the imprint of his hand on it.

Under the Devil's Wall, the Vltava River flows through a boulder channel, called Devil Streams. The riverbed is filled with massive boulders in which giant pots up to a diameter of 1 m have been created.

Lipno Reservoir - přehrada Lipno is a dam and hydroelectric plant constructed along the Vltava River. Construction on the dam began in 1952, and the dam was completed in 1960. With an area of 48.7 km², it is the largest dam reservoir and the largest body of water in the Czech Republic (thanks to which it is also sometimes referred to as the Czech or South Bohemian Sea).

Some walked, while the lady took the easy way up to the Kramolín hill.

The Walkway is finished by a 40 meter nonagon observation tower, with a maximum height of 40 meters.

After 675 meters we returned back to the ground level.

Back to bikes.

Nice side roads without traffic.

We settled in our new place for the night and soon I went shopping.
