Bulgaria: Road trip Bulgaria, Day 5: Musala

Vacation around 1st of May has lately been reserved for road trips and so was this year. Our 5th day was all about conquering the highest Bulgarian mountain, that is also the highest mountain of the Balkan peninsula. Musala is a peak in Rila Mountain, 2925 meters high, that got its name from Arabic through Ottoman Turkish: from Musalla, "near God" or "place for prayer".

Plan was easy, woke up early, drive to Borovets, use the cable car to reach the Yastrebetz station and conquer the summit. Rok an me had a plan to fly back to the valley, but that was soon changed, since the wind was too strong, so we just stick to hiking.

Previous days of Bulgaria road trip: Day 4Day 3Day 2Day 1.

After we bought the cable car tickets we boarded the eggs fully equipped

Tuši and Nada in the gondola

Our summit with the valley, where we will hike

At first we had to descend a bit

Soon we were on snowy terrain

We had a short pause at the Musala hut

Still a long way to the summit

Passing by some icy lakes

Weather was changing all the time, from sunny to foggy

Last section was the steepest, but it wasn't hard, since it was equipped with steel ropes

We reached the top, where the meteorological station stands

Nada, Tuši, Barbara and Rok at the top of the Balkans

Time to carefully go back

Same way back

Another highest peak of the country has fallen

Goodbye snow and Allah
