Italy: Hike & Fly - Le Cornate, Volterra

For the New Year vacation, Nada, Bronco and me decided to have a trip to Tuscany, Italy. Weather forecast was promising for some flying, so we decided to drove to Gerfalco and do a nice hike there. Since the wind was suitable for flying, I did a quick flight from there and then Nada and Bronco picked me up. On our way back home we quickly visited the Volterra city, one of the "twelve cities" of the Etruscan League.

Our previous days in Tuscany: Day 2 - 15929 and Day 1 - 15928.

View of Gerfalco, where we parked our Angie.

Through Le Lame village.

Misty forest.

On Poggio Ritrovoli, 1015 m.

Nice paths, where we didn't met anyone.

Approaching the Le Cornate.

Abandoned limestone quarries.

Foggy top, where we had my mother's potica.

The sky started to open so flying will be possible.

Bronco and me scouted another possible take off site, but the previous one above the quarry was better.

Some thorns, otherwise a good take off spot. I landed on a grassy field below - Garmin Connect.

After a while we were driving towards Castello di Fosini - Castle of Fosini. Speed limit 5 km/h with a warning was promising a good road, but our Angie just contiinued.

We were still good, only a few rocks hit us from below.

Go Angie! And we made it.

In Volterra we did the task for a Virtual geocache, where we had to find 3 alabaster workshops. Volterra alabaster is undoubtedly considered the most valuable in Europe and perhaps in the whole world.

The hilltop location of Volterra provides stunning panoramic views of the surrounding Tuscan countryside.

Volterra sightseeing was over - Garmin Connect - so we said good night Tuscany.

Geocaches found (all received a visit by trackable item "Bicycle Geocoin", TB6P7HF):
- Le cave di Romano "Le Cornate" - Romano's cave, GC66E88
- Alabastro e Volterra, Virtual, GC88ZRG
