For the New Year vacation, Nada, Bronco and me decided to have a trip to
Tuscany,
Italy. Tuscany is known for its landscapes, history, artistic legacy, and its influence on
high culture. It is regarded as the birthplace of the
Italian Renaissance and of the foundations of the Italian language. Our first day was simple, we just had to drove a little more than 600 kilometres and we arrived to our destination.

The half-sunken structure that we can see on the shore is a German fort dating back to the Second World War, called Tobruk. These forts were in the middle of the pine forest at the time. In the 1970s, erosion was so fast that it ate away at least one hundred meters of coastline. |

Built at the end of the 18th century, the Pietrabianca bridge constitutes a precious testimony to the territorial structure of Vada under the government of the Marquis of Tuscany, Pietro Leopoldo who began the reclamation work, which was then completed - around 1840 - by his successor Leopoldo II. Together with the two bridges, also built of bricks and with the characteristic "humpback" shape, which are located in the Mazzanta area (about 2 km further south), and others which have now disappeared, it allowed the crossing of the numerous and irregular waterways that crossed the Vada plain and flowed into the sea. |
