Croatia: West and North of Krk

Our last day of our seaside mini vacation on island Krk has come and with Nada we did some more sightseeing with hiking. A chapel, convent, 2 extreme points of Krk and some minor things were on today's menu.

 

Ruins of St. Anastasia - its decay began in the mid-17th century. This chapel, dating from early Christian times, was mentioned for the first time in 1338 in the Vatican archives in the context of paying some taxes.

Looking towards neighbouring island Cres, that is slightly larger than island of Krk, although Krk has for many years been thought the largest of the islands in the Adriatic.

Towards the monastery

The monastery of Third Order Franciscans, the so called Glagolitic priests, was located in the village Glavotok and later in the final decades of the 15th century, the monastery was founded by the seaside. Even today the Franciscan order preserves its tradition with care and operates in the monastery on Glavotok.

Krk is like many Croatian islands, it is rocky and hilly. The rock is mostly karst.

Krk bridge is a 1430 m long reinforced concrete arch bridge connecting the Croatian island of Krk to the mainland. The longer of the bridge's two arches is the second longest concrete arch in the world and among the longest arches of any construction.
