Greece: Vacation time, Day 14: Goodbye Crete

Time for annual leave has come and with Nada we decided to have a motorbike trip, starting in Slovenia and ending on Crete in Greece. On our way we decided to spend some time with our friends in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and in Greece.

For our last day on Crete our plan was to slowly ride from Chania to Heraklion and see some attractions on the way, board an overnight ferry and leave the island.

Previous days of our vacation: Day 13Day 12Day 11Day 10Day 9Day 8Day 7Day 6Day 5Day 4Day 3Day 2Day 1.

This 2000 year old Greco-Roman bridge, east of the village of Vrysses, spans the Vrisakos River. It is a dry stone structure covered in cobbles and stands 6.4 metres above the river.

Agios Nectarios is a chapel on the eastern outskirts of Gonia.

New ride - 40 mm antiaircraft gun

This shrine commemorates the courage of Australian Greek and British servicemen and Cretan Patriots who fought and fell in battle near Stavromenos between 20th and 30th of May 1941

Someone had some problems in this windy weather - rescue guys were in action in the western bay

Ag. Marina in Agia Pelagia

Before 1965 there was almost nothing in Agia Pelagia, which was a small port from where they transferred wood and coal to Heraklion.

We visited ghost village called Achlada.

Achlada is an old village overlooking Agia Pelagia. Unfortunately most of the inhabitants had left their homes and went to the coast.

Exploring the area around Achlada

Last curves before Heraklion, the largest city of the island of Crete and fourth largest city in Greece.
