GermanyDuisburg: Day 3

With Nada we spent the last day in Duisburg walking around Duisburg-Süd and looking for GeoCaches. After a couple of hours of walking we joined the others for lunch.

The location of our GeoCache was in Erholungspark Biegerhof and the sculpture called "Zeittafel" (Timeline), by Gabriella Fekete. It consists of parallel metal rails on the grass at the end of which are rows of concrete human heads. The gaps between the rails are filled with four-digit, cast-metal numbers. Almost against our will, we are tempted to search for meaning in the numbers. But do not succeed. Read more - click.

Tiger and Turtle – Magic Mountain by Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth. Creator of the two million euro project, Ulrich Genth, said: 'The roller coaster stands for acceleration and high speed of a tiger but the visitor has to explore it step by step like a turtle.' Indeed the mountain was there already, but it is all the same artificial – it conceals an accumulation of problematic substances, thousands of tons of toxic zinc-slag have been piled up within just one year, then afforded with a “green coating” and finally complemented with “art in public space”.

After the loop

Tuši, Nada and river Rhine.  Duisburg is the home of Europe's largest inland port and functions as a hub to the sea ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Amsterdam.
