Austria: Backcountry Skiing, Veliki Klek / Grossglockner

With AO Tržič we decided to conquer Austrian highest mountain, Grossglockner, in Slovene called Veliki Klek. The characteristically pyramid-shaped peak, 3798 m, actually consists of two pinnacles, the Grossglockner and the Kleinglockner (3,770 m, from German: klein, "small"), separated by a saddle-like formation known as the Glocknerscharte.

Start of the tour after 3 hours of driving was at 6:15 a.m.

Long way to go

We passed by Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte, dedicated to Archduke John of Austria/Nadvojvoda Janez Habsburško-Lotarinški.
