My mountaineering section
AO Tržič organized a tour to Košuta ridge, where we would do a little more difficult ridge crossing form
Tolsta Košuta to
Košutnikov Turn. We started hiking in the morning, passing by mountain pasture
Planina Spodnja Dolga njiva and soon we reached state border between
Slovenia and
Austria. In a good hour we were at the summit of the eastern part of
Tolsta Košuta, 2057 m. Then we simply followed the ridge to western peak of
Tolsta Košuta, 2039 m. Some snow parts, loose rocks and steep grassy parts pumped up our adrenaline levels, but we carefully continued. Less known peaks followed like this: Obliči - eastern peak 2005 m, Obliči 2026 m and Gamsovke 2065 m, from where some used a rope for a descent. In 3 hours and a half we were standing on the highest peak of the Košuta ridge,
Košutnikov turn, 2133 m and then we simply descended using the marked path back to the valley -
Garmin Connect.

On the border. |
Snow patches welcomed us on Tolsta Košuta. That also meant we may have more difficulties on the way. |
The ridge ahead of us will lead us to the highest peak of Košuta, Košutnikov Turn. Unmarked trail is suitable only for experienced mountaineers. |
|
Shall we use steep grass, snow or loose rocks? |
|
From time to time, the path wasn't very visible, still the orientation wasn't too difficult. |
|
Matic and me were the scouts. |
|
Descent from Gamsovke is the most difficult one, luckily the rock here is good. Abseil is recommended, but not necessary. |

The chief of our mountaineering section set up the rope. |
|
Back on marked trail. |
|
Sunny day. |
|
Another great day in the mountains. |
