Slovenia: Printing Works, Kušpegarjev Turn and Dovžan Gorge

In a village east from ours, we have a beautiful Gorge and Nada, Bronco and me decided to do a nice round hiking trip. We drove to Dovžan Gorge, that was carved by the Tržič Bistrica River. The river flows through unique waterfalls over large rounded blocks of white quartz conglomerate. These large blocks tumbled into the river from Pine Cliff (Borova peč) above the right bank, named after the Scots pine that overgrows its steep slopes. We continued on foot to The Partisan printing works, a wooden hut above the gorge, that operated during World War Two. Our last destination, before we returned back to the gorge was a peak, called Kušpegarjev turn.

From Dovžan Gorge to the Partisan technique.

Partisan techniques were "secret printing presses" in which partisans reproduced leaflets with slogans and other propaganda material, as well as broadcast radio reports.

The technique was set up in a hidden place in the forest, which provided security, good courier connections, a supply of food and materials, and the possibility of a safe retreat from the occupier. Despite many rounds, the Partisan Press was never discovered.

We had no issues finding the hut, since Bronco quickly discovered the alien in the woods.

Our next stop was a peak, called Kušpegarjev turn, 750 m.

This rock is also popular amongst climbers, as some climbing routes lead all the way to the top.

Descending.

Climbing routes and us.

Back in the gorge and through the tunnel, completed in 1895, we returned back to our starting point - Garmin Connect.
