Canada: Day 2 - Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and Vancouver Aquarium
Rok and me were spending our vacation in BC, Canada. Weather wasn't good, so we came to a decision, to be tourists for a day. With Nataša we decided to visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Vancouver. We explored all the details of the park and even attended two guided tours. After a while the rain intensified, so we decided to visit the Vancouver Aquarium, where we stayed till the late afternoon.
Previous day of our trip to Canada: Day 1.
In Canada, they have dogs instead of roosters.
Ever wonder where the name Capilano comes from? It is actually a First Nations name belonging to the Squamish Nation and originally spelled Kia’palano, meaning "beautiful river". Kia’palano was the name of a great Squamish chief who lived in this area in the early part of the 1800s. |
The Capilano Suspension Bridge is a simple suspension bridge crossing the Capilano River. It is 140 metres long and 70 metres above the river.

High above the Capilano River.
We acted like true tourists
Capilano has North America's largest privately owned collection of totem poles.
Totem poles, carved and painted logs, mounted vertically, are usually constructed by the Indians of the Northwest Coast of the United States and Canada. |
The bridge was originally built in 1889 by George Grant Mackay, a Scottish civil engineer and park commissioner for Vancouver. It was originally made of hemp ropes with a deck of cedar planks.
The bridge can hold up to 96 full grown elephants.
Treetops Adventure offers squirrel’s eye view to the forrest.
Dr. Woods weather station works almost as ours.
Treetops Adventure is a series of seven suspension bridges attached to eight 30 ton, 250 year old Douglas-firs.
