Slovenia: Fifth Traditional Hike to Stol

Our traditional hike to Stol, with 2236 meters the highest peak of the Karawanks, occurred one day before the 2nd Sunday in January. This year we had 4 participants, Nada, Rok, another Rok and me. The hike started a little past 6 o'clock in the morning and after Valvasorjev dom pod Stolom mountain hut, the snow level started increasing significantly. At Prižnica we left Nada behind and we continued in windy and foggy weather to Prešernova koča na Stolu mountain hut, where we put on our crampons and grabbed ice axes and we continued to the top. Another day with zero visibility in the mountains, but as always, much better than watching TV at home. A couple of freezing photos at the top and we were already on our way back to Valvasorjev dom, where we stopped for a well deserved beer. Soon we all felt awesome and we just returned back to our starting point by the Završnica lake.

Nada was infront of us

Into the fog and wind

At the top of Stol, 2236 m, the highest peak of the Karawanks.

Frozen trio was happy when the sun started to shine our our way back.

Another day in the mountains with harsh winter environment.
