Croatia / Slovenia: Kostelgrad, Lake Šmartinsko jezero and Maypole for Grega
In the morning we left
Hrvatsko Zagorje and soon we stopped in
Kostel, from where we started our
hike to the ruins of the Kostelgrad, where we had a nice view to the surrounding area. Since the hike wasn't long, we were back in less than an hour -
Garmin Connect. Our next stop was an artificial lake Šmartinsko jezero, where we relaxed on the shore. We finished the day with placing a
maypole for our neighbour Grega.

The ruins of Kostelgrad. |
It is assumed that the fortress was built in the middle of the 13th century.
|
Since the 18th century, the fortress has been left to decay. At the end of the 18th century, it became a ruin. |
|
The fortress is a popular destination with a wonderful view from the northern wall to Brege Kostelske and Donačka gora in Slovenia. The special feature is the southern view, which offers a great view to the Sutinska valley, a narrow gap along the Kosteljina river, through which the city of Pregrada is entered from the north. |
|
The fortress is now is a protected cultural asset. |
|
Leaving the fortress. |
Our 2nd stop was lake Šmartinsko jezero.
|
Lake Šmartinsko jezero, with an area of 1.07 km², is one of the largest artificial lakes (reservoirs) in Slovenia. It lies north of Celje on the way to Vojnik and was created by damming the Koprivnica stream, which merges into the Savinja. |
|
Shall we go fishing? |
