Slovenia: Kušpegarjevi turni and Dovžan Gorge

Nada and me joined the Aljančič family and together we did a nice hike in Dovžan Gorge, carved by the Tržič Bistrica River. The gorge is picturesque because of the six high stone pillars known as the Kušpergar Towers (Kušpegarjevi turni) and on the way we also visited the Partisan underground press.

On the trail towards Partisan press.

In Partizanska tehnika, a presentation of the partisan printing house of the Kokrški odred in Dolina above Tržič, you can get acquainted with the propaganda service during the national liberation struggle between 1941 and 1945.

The partisan printing house of the Kokrški odred was set up in a hidden place in the forest, which provided security, good courier connections, supply of food and materials, and the possibility of a safe retreat from the occupier. Despite numerous patrols of the Partisan Printing House, the enemy never discovered it.

The Dovžan Gorge is located in the central part of the Karawanks, Slovenia's longest mountain range. Within it lies a unique site of rocks dating from the late Paleozoic Era.

A little bit of climbing.

The Dovžan Gorge was protected as a natural monument in 1988 due to its status as a unique site of plant and animal fossils in rocks from the Paleozoic. Numerous species of brachiopods and the foraminifer Schwagerina carniolica were first found and described in the gorge.
