Slovenia: Vipava Valley
In the morning we left Snežnik area and said goodbye to the girls and boys from the party. We drove to Vipava, where we explored the Vipava riverhead, a rare natural phenomenon. I also explored the Vipava Cave and then we visited Nada's coworker Marta, where we picked up the cherries. On our way back home we picked up a few more geocaches.
Over the wall into one of the sources of Vipava river. |
Entering the Vipava cave.
Nada stayed on the safe side. |
Continuing bare foot.
The end after 400 meters. Time to return back. |
Small dot in the middle of the cave is the exit. I also found my shoes on the way back.
Mother nature started to build something. |
Back on the sun. |
Picking up cherries.
Cross of Theodosius above the village Vrhpolje was erected on the 1600th anniversary of the Battle of the Frigidus, which took place in the vicinity on the 5th and 6th of September 394 A.D. when a strong Bora wind helped Theodosious's army to defeat Eugenius's soldiers.
Our next stop was the Col village. A Roman road led through the village. Due to Col's location between the Vipava Valley and Notranjska region it was a perfect place for a collecting the tolls. The name Col is borrowed from German word Zoll, which means toll or custom duty. We found the Monument to the waterworks Gora. Near Logatec we also visited the Ten-Day war monument.
Claustra Alpium Iuliarum - a defence system within the Roman Empire between Italia and Pannonia that protected Italy from possible invasions from the East. |
