Malta: Day 2: Buġibba
Malta is the world's tenth smallest country (316 km²) and with Nada we decided to spend a few days there. On our second day we explored the city where we are situated, Buġibba.

St. Paul’s Shipwreck Church is also known as St. Paul’s Bonfire Church and commemorates the traditional site where the shipwreck survivors, including Paul, swam ashore and a bonfire was built for them. The church was constructed in the 14th century, but was rebuilt after a bomb destroyed the original building during World War II.
Remains of Roman baths cut into the rocks, called Sirens. |
Wignacourt Tower (Torri ta' Wignacourt), also known as Saint Paul's Bay Tower (Torri ta' San Pawl il-Baħar), was the first of six Wignacourt towers to be built, and it was completed in 1610.
View from the Torri ta' Wignacourt to San Pawl il-Baħar (St. Paul's Bay). It was from here that the Maltese soldiers kept watch on the horizon for approaching corsair or pirate ships that frequently landed in the area during 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. The alarm was usually raised using flags and smoke by day and petards at night. |

Traditionally, St. Paul’s Bay was known as a fisherman’s village, similar to Marsaxlokk, although it’s lost a little of its character with the area’s development as a popular tourist destination.
