Slovenia: With Pony Bikes to Bovec - Day 1
Local cyclists invited me to a ride to
Bovec with a retro Pony bikes. I rented my bike from Tom, fixed it a little and I was ready to join them. We gathered at 7 a.m. in
Bistrica pri Tržiču and our journey began. On our first day we rode over
Jamnik and
Petrovo Brdo to
Hudajužna and many things happened on the way -
Garmin Connect.

Ready to go. 1 gear, 20" wheels and coaster brake. This one was a special edition bike made by Tomos. |

8 guys, Klemen, Janez, Miha, Mrki, Nejc, Tuši, Grega and Mičo are ready to go. |

Mičo and Puhar. |
Tuning the bikes and ourselves in Kropa before the climb to Jamnik. Attractions on the way. Some preserved technical facilities near Kroparica still bear witness to the former lively iron works activity. The highest, in Dno nad Kropo, is the Slovenska peč, an iron smelter from the 14th century. At the top of the hill, we rode past one of the most photographed locations in Slovenia, church of St. Primus and Felicianus. Technical difficulties on my bike. My crank wedge was quite loose and damaged. We'll try to fix it in the next village, so we moved on. Since it was still steep, 1 gear wasn't enough, so we simply pushed the bikes. |
Stop in Dražgoše to cool our brakes and make a few phone calls for my wedge. |
|
In Železniki I was able to get a new wedge, so we were able to continue. On the picture, one of our bikes, fully geared for this trip. |
Preparing for the last climb of the day.
|
Last few turns before the saddle. |
|
Klemen with full throttle. |
|
Finally lunch. |
|
Few more difficulties on our way down. |
Everything can be fixed with the proper tools.
|
We finished with the cycling for the first day in Hudajužna. Locals welcomed us at their bar and gave us a place to sleep. Simply awesome. |
