Slovenia: Season for Cycling is Open, Gregorjevo (St. Gregory’s day)

Warm day in March suggested that it is time for some cycling. In the morning Nada cleaned up our bikes and in the afternoon we took them to a short ride from Kokrica over Preddvor to Predoslje.

In the evening we visited Gregorjevo, a traditional event in Tržič, celebrated on the eve of St. Gregor (11th March). It is a time when the days get longer and birds get married.

Short but sweet

Shoemakers no longer needed to work by the light while the sunlight shines upon the Tržič valley. To express their pleasure they made little houses out of cardboard with lights in it and then put them into a river. The tradition goes on.

 

Kids made many "houses" and some of the really lightened up
