Slovenia: Golica, Krvavka, Mala Golica, Suha, Sava Caves and Miss Narcis
Weather wasn't perfect for hiking, still Nada and me decided to go. Our plan was to conquer Golica and to see many Narcissus plants. Scientifically named Narcissus poeticus has many names around the world some of them are: poet's daffodil, poet's narcissus, nargis, pheasant's eye, findern flower, and pinkster lily and in Slovene we just call them narcisa.
First we reached Koča na Golici mountain hut, 1582 m, where we had tea and we asked about the flowers and where can they be found. The answer was disappointing, because they told us that we are too early. Still we continued to the main peak of the area, Golica, 1835 m.
At the top there used to be a mountain hut, named afer a Slovene mountaineer Franc Kadilnik (1825–1908). At that time numerous German mountain huts were built across Slovenia and soon some conscious Slovenes prepared one of the answers and they built the hut on top of Golica. The hut was opened on 18. June 1905 and burnt down during WW2.
Soon we continued on the ridge over Krvavka, 1784 m, and Mala Golica, 1646 m, to the saddle called Suha. From there the road led us by Sava Caves back to our starting point.
In Savske jame (Sava caves) they mined iron ore. Mines were closed in 1904 due to high production costs.
We finished the day in Planina pod Golico village, where they held their annual party called Miss Narcis (Miss Narcissus), with a various programme.

And we found them - Narcissus poeticus |
Over saddle Suha we visited Savske jame - Sava caves, an ex iron mine.

More we went down, the more flowers we saw. So we were really a bit early. |
