Croatia: MTB - Forts near Pula and Fažana

In the morning I left Nada in the campsite and with Black Mamba we started exploring forts in the area. We visited many of them, some are totally in ruins, while other are in better shape. On the way I also picked up 10 geocaches.

Previous days of our seaside trip: Day 1 - 16155, Day 2 - 16156.

Morning on our beach.

Camping place or Nada's office for today.

Cape Proština (Punta Christo) is located at the northern entrance to the Pula harbor near Štinjan.

Fort Punta Christo is the largest Austro-Hungarian fortification in the area. Although it was abandoned for a long time, many concerts, exhibitions and other cultural events take place in it today. It was built at the end of the 19th century and covers more than ten thousand square meters. It has even 270 rooms.

View from the end of the cape Rt Proština.

While one guy was fishing, I was searching for the geocache.

The path led me through the nice bushy area near the Lost Beach.

Monte Grosso Fortress is positioned on the hill overlooking the Valmaggiore at an altitude of 67 m and it was constructed in 1836.

The Monte Grosso Fort boasted about 18 cannons, making it a significant defensive installation of its time. In its second construction phase, two mortar batteries were added adjacent to the fort. Each of these batteries was equipped with four 21 cm coast mortars M 80.

Through the forest I came to Fort Munide,  a fortified tower located on the Mount Žunac, built in 1852. Half of the fort has been destroyed in 1944 when the fort was bombed.

View to Pula.

The historic FS 835.040 steam locomotive was built by the Italian State Railways (Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane) in the early 20th century.

I revisited the Pula Arena and then headed to Fort San Giorgio or better known to many as the Pula Fort Monte Ghiro.

I think I got lost somewhere in the bushes.

Between olive groves.

In the end I visited the replica of autenthic istrian "kažun". Kažun was used as a storage for tools which were used on land. After that it was time to go back - Garmin Connect.

Dinner and sunset.
