Slovenia: Hiking: Ljubelj - Preval - Dobrča - Šentanski vrh - Lešanska - Bistriška - Podljubelj

Laško Brewery is organising an event called "Gremo v hribe" (Let's go to the Mountains) and a part of that event was visiting the Koča na Dobrči mountain hut. For every visitor the brewery donated 1€ to local alpine association, so we decided to join. Since we couldn't arrange a common path and time for the whole group, we divided to smaller groups, that start at different points and times. Rok, Tjaša and me started the earliest, at 6 a.m. and we took the longest track.

After 1 hour we arrived to Koča na Prevalu mountain hut, 1311 m

Conquered one of the peaks, Dobrča, 1634 m

After a while Boštjan and Borut joined us on the top

We descended to our destination, Koča na Dobrči mountain hut, 1478 m, where the event already took place. One of our singers, Tanja Žagar, was the main star of the event. Families Kralj and Nemec also joined us at this point.

Our last stop before going back to the valley was Bistriška planina, 1050 m

Slovenia: Visiting Different Pubs

The project called Visiting Different Pubs finished today. With Rok, we visited 23 different pubs in a good month and the results are shown in a table below. As mentioned in a post 12428, we had a plan to visit always a different pub from our work back home and drink a beer and make a review about the pubs.

Cheers!

Slovenia: Circuit repair

If your wife (accidentally) throws your HDD on the floor and then it doesn't work any more, maybe there is still hope to save it. We saved Vizo's.

Slovenia: Hiking to Begunjščica & Slovenian Statehood Day

Vizo, Kralj and me went on a hike to one of the highest mountains in the vicinity. We gathered at 7 a.m. and started hiking towards our first stop.

Our first break on Koča na Prevalu mountain hut, 1311 m

On the way to Roblekov dom na Begunjščici mountain hut a short 1 minute brake

Quick look in the manganese mine on the Shepherd's path. Beginnings of mining of manganese ore on the slopes of Begunjščica reach back to the early 19th century. Initially, ore was transported by self weighted sleighs in the winter and by single ax carts without the rear wheels along narrow paths in the summertime. The last part of the cart was sliding on the floor and decelerating it. In the valley the ore got unloaded to the ordinary carts and was driven to ironworks of Gorenjska. Manganese ore was important to ironworks for the ability of manganese compounds to desulfur pig iron and give it an elastic alloy. With the discovery of the new process, the need for manganese ore increased sharply. Technical Director of Kranjska Industrijska družba (KID), Lambert von Pantz added to the iron ore manganese ore, which was dug in Begunjščica. He achieved that the KID was the first blast furnace in the world that obtained an alloy of iron and manganese - feromanganese, which brought worldwide fame to the inventor and to ironworks of Javornik. They were awarded for their product in exhibitions in Vienna (1873) and Philadelphia (1876). In Florjan, Ferdinand and Maximiljan pit around 130000 tons of ore, containing about 30% of manganese, were dug up until the closure of the mining district in 1915. Nice six our hike from home

On this day we also have a holiday in Slovenia. Statehood Day commemorates the country's declaration of independence from Yugoslavia in 1991. My neighbour Vid was part of the celebration programme that occurred in Ljubelj and we went up there to see it. After the official programme we had a free goulash.

Slovenia: With bicycle to work and back

Today Petra joined me on my morning bicycle trip to work, so we took the road on the right bank of river Sava.

At work, I had to perform full power test on a card I am developing. Voltmeter, low resistance load, temperature camera and powerful current supply were used.

Before the test, hope I won't blow up something.

340 degrees C on resistors and almost 1000W, test passed.

Slovenia: Morning hike to Tolsti vrh

The idea for the morning hike was following Rok and me for quite some time and today we realized it. The start of the hike was set at 2 a.m. in the morning and with a short 10 minute delay we started walking in hot night towards Koča na Kriški gori mountain hut, where we took a short break to find a geocache.

Geocache on Kriška gora, Paragliders' playground, GC1BMVC

We quickly found it and we were already on the way to our destination, Tolsti vrh, 1715 m a.m.s.l. After 2 hour from the start we reached the top.

Rok and me on Tolsti vrh at 5 a.m. in the morning

The valley is slowly waking up

Sunrise from Tolsti vrh with the view to Storžič

On the top we had Laško beer, we took some photos of the sunrise and then we started with our descent toward our cars. Just after six we got there and at 7 a.m. we were already at work.

Slovenia: Bicycle: Jerebikovec

A while ago I met my schoolmate and we decided to have a bicycle tour and today was the day. We met in Lesce and rode towards Bled and Spodnje Gorje, where we turned left for our destination, Jerebikovec. We cycled on long undulating plateau Mežakla and after a couple of breaks and a short hike we arrived to the top, 1593 m a.m.s.l.

Small bivouac on the top for shelter in time of thunderstorm

Schoolmates after 15 years, Tuši and Janez

View from the top could be outstanding, but we didn't have that much luck

After 8 hours I was back in Bistrica pri Tržiču, where I left my bicycle and joined my friends with iceecram

Slovenia: Bicycle: 156 kilometres on Marathon Franja

After a short night with plenty of beers Aleš picked me up in the morning and drove me and my bicycle to Ljubljana, where the start of the marathon was.

Marathon Franja was premierely organized on 22nd July, 1982 by our cycling club Rog (Rog at that time was a well established Slovenian bicycle manufacturing company). Organizers back then decided to name it after World War II hidden hospital (now protected as a war monument) which the marathon passes on its way, thus paying tribute to the bravery of medical personnel, taking care of wounded Partisans and allied armed forces.

50 km before the finish line in Gorenja vas they served a nice energy beer
