Slovenia: 7 Day Hiking Challenge, Part 4: Ledinski vrh

Sometime last year, an idea popped up, while we were drinking beer. "Let's conquer a 2000 meter high peak every consecutive day in a week with at least 1000 vertical meters of hiking". Stupid or not, we added this to our future plans.

We started with realisation this week and on Thursday our chosen peak was Ledinski vrh, 2108 m.
Attendees: Lovro, Rok and Tuši

This one we attacked in the morning before work. For ascent we chose more demanding Slovenian way past Kranjska koča na Ledinah mountain hut and on our way back we chose the hunter's way.

Austria: Glacier Mountaineering Course: Day 2

First day of Glacier Mountaineering Course was behind us (13553) and we were ready to conquer the highest mountain of North Tyrol and 2nd of Austria, Wildspitze, 3770 m. Early self service breakfast in Breslauer Hütte and a liitle past 5 a.m. we were already walking. After first dry meters we started to walk on the snow. We passed the almost extinct glacier Mitterkarferner to Mitterkarjoch, a pass on altitude of 3470 meters. From there we descended to Taschachferner, a nice glacier, where we formed glacial formations. Some lightweight juniors were lucky and they could easily walk on top of new snow, while the snow skin was too thin for others, still we all made it to the end of the glacier and by that time, we were just 10 minutes away from the top of Wildspitze.

We all gathered at the cross at the top of the mountain and after a photo session we started to return back. We stopped for an hour on the glacier, near some cracks, and there we practiced the rescue maneuvers. All filled up with new knowledge, we returned back to the hut, where we packed our backpacks, drank all the remaining liquids, that were safely deposited in the snow and returned back to Vent, where the vans were waiting for us.

Our plan, to stay one more day somewhere around fell into the water, since it started to rain and the forecast was really bad, so we just returned back home. This year we also didn't forget about our fellow Austrian police officers. For speeding we gave them 40€.

A little past 5 a.m. we were already on our way

Austria: Glacier Mountaineering Course: Day 1

Our mountaineering section organised a Glacier Mountaineering Course and I joined them. 13 of us gathered in Bistrica pri Tržiču and together we drove over Austria, Germany, back to Austria to Ötztal. We parked our vans in Vent and on our first day we walked to Breslauer Hütte, 2844 m. We hydrated for a while and then our instructor Miha demonstrated, how to properly move on the glacier, how to use the ropes and how to rescue someone if he falls into the crack.

Group of 13 in Vent: Upper row: Tuši, Rok, Žiga, Matic, Jernej, Beno, Matic, Nejc, Metod, Lower row: Johnny, Slavc, Miha, Klara

11 of us continued on foot, 2 of them used the chair lift for 9€, to gain an hour

Sunny day, so even cows were resting

Slovenia: Cycling Afternoon

Grega, Klemen and me decided a while ago, to cycle the Marathon Alpe trail - http://maraton-alpe.si/. We changed it a bit and we cycled counter-clockwise, with a small shortcut, still we cycled 130 kilometres with a little more than 2000 m of height difference. On the way, my schoolmate Boštjan also joined us, and together we successfully reached all the designated mountain passes, Kranjski Rak, 1029 m, Pavlič pass, 1338 m, and Jezerski vrh, 1218 m. In Zgornje Jezersko Nada joined us and escorted us back to the valley.

It just calls to repeat it. We scheduled it for next month, this time clockwise.

Slovenia: Free Weekend for 3 Men, Day 2

Boštjan, Borut and me were free for the weekend and we decided to go on a bicycle trip with extra hydration stops. Well, 2nd day was more about hiking.

On Sunday, after breakfast Borut and me waited for Boštjan to came out of the valley and then we continued with our men day. Again, we had many stages.
- Stage 1, hike from Dom na Zelenici mountain hut, 1536 m, to Roblekov dom na Begunjščici mountain hut, 1657 m
- Stage 2, that was achieved, was to conquer Begunjčica, 2060 m, and come back to Dom na Zelenici mountain hut
- Beer helped us with our next decision, so we added an extra milestone, Koča na Ljubelju mountain hut, 1370 m. Boštjan was a pedestrian, so he walked there, while Borut and me cycled there. Well, Borut did, but I had a flat tyre, so I left the bicycle on parking lot on Ljubelj and I also continued on foot.
- Last stage... to come home
