Slovenia: Okroglež, Debela Peč, Brda

It has been a while since Nada and me conquered a new two-thousander. We picked an easy destination, a summit called Debela peč, 2014 m, which is the easternmost two-thousander in Julian Alps. We started our hike from Pasture Zajavornik and over Blejska koča na Lipanci mountain hut, 1630 m, and Okroglež, 1965 m, we reached our destination, the summit of Debela peč. We quickly took some photos and then the fog destroyed our view, so we moved on. We followed the ridge, meanwhile conquered Brda, 2008 m, and after Lipanska vrata we descended back to the valley. After a quick snack in Blejska koča na Lipanci mountain hut we returned to our starting point.

St. Martin's Weekend arrived and with Nada we decided to have dinner at Gostišče Koren. Sparkling wine, smoked duck breast, gnocchi, classic St. Martin's menu and Panna cotta with pumpkin seed oil made the day perfect.

 

First part of the way led us through the forests of Pokljuka, where battles took place during World War 2.

Pokljuka is a forested karst plateau at an elevation of around 1100 to 1400 metres, located in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia. The plateau is known for its forests, mountain pastures (Javornik, Lipanca, Uskovnica, Zajamniki, etc.), winter sports facilities and as a common starting point for mountain hikers.
