Slovenia: GeoCaching in Ljubljana
Another day in Slovenian capital was dedicated to exploring hidden places and geocaching.
The Church of St. Joseph (Cerkev sv. Jožefa), located in the Poljane area of Ljubljana, was built in the neo-Romanesque style by the architect and Benedictine monk Father Anzelm Werner in 1913. The yet unfurnished church was taken over by the army and used as a the city's food warehouse throughout the First World War. In 1921 it was returned to the Jesuits and restoration works began. In 1941 it was fitted with a main altar designed by the architect Jože Plečnik. After the Second World War, the church was confiscated again and used for many years by various Slovenian film production companies. Since 2003 it has again been administered by the Jesuits. |
An interesting fact: St Joseph’s Church is the longest church in the Ljubljana diocese.

Ljubljana Castle - originally a medieval fortress, it was probably constructed in the 11th century and rebuilt in the 12th century. It acquired its present outline with an almost complete overhaul in the 15th century, whereas the majority of the buildings date to the 16th and 17th centuries. |
