New Zealand: Day 79: South Island Motorbike Trip: Day 06: Invercargill - The Catlins - Alexandra - Lindis Pass - Omarama

Our Invercargill disaster was behind us and hopefully we will not experience it again. The trip shifted to second part and we had to start returning back North, but first our plan was to conquer the true southernmost point of South Island, Slope Point.

The grass on the South part of the South Island was much greener than on northern areas

We discovered that the southernmost point of South Island wasn't Bluff , but the Slope Point, so we had to go there

On Slope Point, just 4803 kilometres from South Pole

Since there was no way to move more South on the roads, we continued on the coastline towards East where we  ran to our best roads so far. New seal, great corners and empty roads just put the smile on our faces and our bikes were dancing around the curves in a nice rythm. That's The Catlins! Even-though the roads were excellent we convinced ourselves to stop from time to time and check some beautiful places on our way.

We stopped at Curio Bay

We walked 20 minutes on McLean Falls Track to 22-metre McLean Falls on the Tautuku River in Catlins Forest Park

Florence Hill Lookout seemed a good place for our typical lunch, rice with tuna and some veggies

After delicious lunch we continued on a scenic road towards Alexandra

In Alexandra John decided to change his rear tyre (it became almost as bad as mine a day ago) and we took the opportunity to have a nice break with a Monteith's beer in a local bar

Our Suzuki RF 900 R's rode on some great roads today and it seems they will continue to do so over the Lindis Pass, 971 m a. m. s. l.

We passed the home of the Icebreaker. John, their true representative, also convinced me to think about using their merino products, although I don't show that to him. He definitely deserves a free pack of Merino underwear every Xmas from sheep Santa. Just look at the smile on his face. When we stopped for this photo, only his jacket and boots were not made from his favourite wool.

After 500 kilometres we arrived to our free Ahuriri Bridge campsite near Omarama

Sunset over nearby hills

Our dinner, pork, mashed potatoes and veggies

Time to sleep nearby Ahuiri River
