The Trans Karavanke MTB Trail extends from
Jezersko to Tromeja. It mostly runs along forest roads on the sunny slopes of the
Karawanks, and only climbs to a ridge and the border with
Austria at its westernmost point, Peč, or
Tromeja.
A joined recreational trip with hikers and mountain bikers started on
Jezersko and while hikers did more direct route, we followed the Trans Karavanke markings. We all ended the day in
Dom na Kofcah mountain hut.
Our first attraction on the road, Former Partisan hospital Krtina. |
A part of the war times history in Jezersko can be seen in a partisan hospital Krtina, hidden in the woods of Komatevra. This small wooden cottage built in 1944 served as a hospital for wounded soldiers. There is still some equipment preserved, such as fireplace, kettles, tools and some other objects.
The hospital was burned down on the 13th January 1945 when also one of the wounded soldiers was killed. Up to that day 30 soldiers were treated in the hospital. The hospital was in 1951 restored to its original form. |
Resting on the way.
Natural obstacles on the road. |
Section, where we had to push the bikes and then we also changed the valley. |
View to Košuta ridge. |
Towards another detour. |
The roughly 15-metre-high waterfall - Stegovnik Waterfall. |
Today on the bikes: Mateja, Vinko, Tina, Baki, Tuši and Teja. Janez was also with us, but for this section, he chose another way.
Triple T back stage: Teja, Tina and Tuši.
Longer break at mountain pasture planina Pungrat, directly below the Košuta ridge. |
We could've stayed here, but we had a reservation somewhere else.
The Košuta ridge is just gorgeous. |
Around Gromov rob. |
Janez and Vinko. |
Arriving to Šija. |
Enough of sunbathing. Time to move on. |
Final meters.
We stamped our books and waited for the sunset.
Peaceful evening in the mountains.
