Italy: Geocaching around Montescudaio and New Year's Eve

For the New Year vacation, Nada, Bronco and me decided to have a trip to Tuscany, Italy. Nada and Bronco were tired from yesterday, so I made my own plan today. I decided to search for geocaches around Montescudaio and I must say I found some really interesting places. In the evening I cooked a New Year's Eve dinner and together we entered into the 2023.

Our previous days in Tuscany: Day 6 - 15933, Day 5 - 15932, Day 4 - 15931, Day 3 - 15930, Day 2 - 15929 and Day 1 - 15928.

Lost place.

The Cècina river.

Art in one of the abandoned houses.

Olive groove below the city.

Inside of the cave Grotta dei pipistrelli I almost run into the Batman.

The church of S. Lucia (1179 - late 19th century) is located immediately outside the town of Montescudaio.

Art at the entrance of the city.

Montescudaio is a member of the I Borghi più belli d'Italia ("The most beautiful villages of Italy") association.

Roofs of the city.

Narrow streets and a monument.

After 12 found geocaches I returned back to our home.

In the evening, we all did another trip around the village and then it was time for New Year's Eve dinner.

Happy New Year from us!

Rummy game exhausted our supplies.

Italy: Monte Capanne on isola d'Elba

For the New Year vacation, Nada, Bronco and me decided to have a trip to Tuscany, Italy. Our plan for today was to go to island Elba, conquer it's highest peak any maybe fly from it. We boarded the morning ferry and we started executing our plan as soon as we set foot on the largest island of the Tuscan Archipelago.

Our previous days in Tuscany: Day 5 - 15932, Day 4 - 15931, Day 3 - 15930, Day 2 - 15929 and Day 1 - 15928.

Morning on the ferry.

Hello isola d'Elba.

Sea and the sky.

Approaching Portoferraio, the island's largest city.

Observing while entering the port.

The city was founded by Cosimo I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, in 1548, with the name of Cosmopoli ("Cosimo's City"), to balance the presence of the Spanish citadel in Porto Azzurro.

Start of the hike, where we passed by the oldest place of worship on the Island of Elba, Romitorio di San Cerbone.

Climber Bronco.

Crossroad with the shelter.

Loose rocks and a sunny day.

Resting under a tree.

View to Marciana town.

Elba island covers 224 km2 and has 147 m of coastline.

Trio Nada, Tuši and Bronco on top of Monte Capanne, 1019 m.

Preparing for take off.

Heli port used as a take off site.

And here I have cut the A cord, making the wing unflyable, so we all walked bac to the valley - Garmin Connect.

After we drank some water we explored the Procchio.

The Villa in San Martino, Napoleon's summer residence, is in the heart of the countryside, about 5 km from Portoferraio. The magnificent neoclassic architecture of the building is the work of Count Anatolio Demidoff, husband of Napoleon's neice Matilde di Monfort, who, in 1851, decided to build a place worthy of Imperial pomps where he could keep his collection of Napoleonic antiques.

From the countryside we drove bac to the Portoferraio.

Off the beaten track.

Time for a beer.

Leaving the island.

Writing down Bronco's words.

Hard work.
