Malta: Day 7: Exploring Mellieħa area with bikes

The flag of Malta is a basic bi-colour, with white in the hoist and red in the fly. A representation of the George Cross, awarded to Malta by George VI of the United Kingdom in 1942, is carried, edged with red, in the canton of the white stripe. 7th day on the island Nada and me decided to rent the bikes for 3 days and explore it on 2 wheels. Since the drivers looked a little dangerous on their turf, we chose nice back roads for our journey. We headed North and explored the Mellieħa area.

Previous days of our trip to Malta: Day 6Day 5Day 4, Day 3Day 2 and Day 1.

The name Mellieħa is derived from the Semitic root m-l-ħ, which means salt. This is probably derived from the ancient Punic-Roman salt pans which existed at Mellieħa Bay. The site of the salt pans is now occupied by the Għadira Nature Reserve.

Proper road for our mountain bikes

Ghar Il-Midfna burial cave
