13232

Slovenia: Triglav: Day 2

Our sport and cultural society ŠKD Indijanci organized a 2 day trip to our highest mountain, Triglav, 2864 m, and 7 members attended. John, Nada, Rok, Nejc, Vlado, Blaž an me arrived to Triglavski dom na Kredarici mountain hut yesterday (13231) and today we continued early in the morning. Our plan was to be on Slovenian highest mountain for the sunrise, so we started at 4 a.m. and it was definitely worth it. Great photos, nice atmosphere, we baptised first timers and all those things made us forget how early it was. Soon it was time to continue, so we started with our descent to Dom Planika mountain hut, 2401 m. Since Rok was in a hurry, he left us half way down where he chose quicker way down. We had a quick breakfast at the hut and we continued to Dom Valentina Staniča mountain hut, 2332 m, where we wrote 2 postcards and relaxed a bit. After a beer it was time to move back to our starting point, Aljažev dom v Vratih mountain hut, 1015 m. Nejc, John and me hurried up a bit, while Nada, Blaž and Vlado were already tired, so they finished a bit later.

Morning ascent to Triglav

On the summit. The Triglav name is derived from the compound *Tri-golvъ (literally 'three-head'—that is, 'three peaks'), which may be understood literally because the mountain has three peaks when viewed from much of Upper Carniola.

Baptising

The Aljaž Turret has been standing on top of Triglav, 2864 m a.s.l., for 120 years.

Towards Dom Planika mountain hut

Dom Planika pod Triglavom is a mountain hut, which lies on Ledine plains on southern side of Triglav. First hut, also called Triglavski tempelj, was built on 18 September 1871.

On our way down

Medvedova skala (Bear Cliff), 1580 m or Prag was the most difficult part on the way down. It is a 10 to 15 m high smooth plate wit a lot of wedges and wire ropes, that help hikers to climb over it. Name The Bear Cliff was named after the bear, that tried to escaped from the hunters, fall over it and killed himself.
