Slovenia: GeoCaching in Tržič and Naklo

Weather was quite unstable today so I decided to do some afternoon GeoCaching with Nada. We decided to solve the MultiCache, called "Rokovnjaški pohod / Brigands raid". The story dated back in 1843 and we had to solve it.

Story:

Welcome to the year 1843. We are near small village called Dewplach. The village got it's name by an underground cave. There is a stream flowing from it and the entry of the cave looks like a hollow tree (»duplo« is local name for a birds nest inside a hollow tree). Me and my friends have build a camp somewhere in the woods to avoid being drafted in military service. Up until now the villagers have brought us food and clothes. But because of the winter the situation is worse and all of us, brigands and villagers are fighting for our survival. Today we will help our self. Let's go to the meeting place to meet the others (A/N: point PK).

Our friends are already here. We stand by the fence to the graveyard. Here, in the shadow of a tree we will pay our respect to the ones that have fallen or get caught. Their faces are sculptured on the wooded door to the mortuary. Many have fallen (A/N: count All the faces on the main mortuary gates).

Our local vicar has hidden money in his chambers. Today it will be taken from him and we will be able to survive the winter. He is afraid of us. We know that because he has put lamps on the graveyard. But we will avoid them all (A/N: note the numBer of street lights on the center path on the cementary).

Damn it! Somebody has betrayed us. We have hardly escaped, since they were waiting for us in an ambush. We are running towards manor Duplje. We will form a new plan in the shadow of it's trees (A/N: point P1).

Everything is going to ruin. The lord of the manor has build a fence around its garden. He is also afraid of our power. Especially because of all the rumors that we spread around. But this fence is something special. The lord has build many pillars and put a cannonball on top of every one (A/N: how many balls is on top of the pillars of the fenCe). His fence is not safe from us, neither is his treasury. But not today. Today we have to revenge a treachery. To the Vogvar's house (A/N: point P2). The youngest of the Vogvar family has betrayed us and revealed our plan to the lord of the manor. We must find his house (A/N: what is the adDress number of the house Vogvarjeva domačija).

Finally the luck has stuck. We have found the youngest at home. We interrogated him and he has confessed his betrayal. Luckily he has also revealed to us the vicar has hidden his money in the tower of the upper church (A/N: point P3).

We are standing in front of the church and things are finally starting to look good. The vicar has colored the stones on which we will climb to green and the path is clearly seen (A/N: how many greEn rows of "stone" is to the top of the bell tower).

The treasure is finally ours. We must fly away before the lords raise against us. We will feast and party at our secret meeting place. Then we will hide the treasure so only us brigands will know where. But let me give away another clue: N 46° 18.(4*A+7*B+6*C+5*D+3*E) E 014° 18.(6*A+8*B+8*C+9*D+2*E); A+B+C+D+E=132.

We stared walking in Spodnje Duplje and Zgornje Duplje, where we found many interesting places and soon we solved the mystery.

Vogvarjeva domačija / House of Vogvar family, more than two hundred years old rustic farmhouse with outbuildings and shoemaking workshop is an ethnographic museum and cultural-historical monument, today. It displays a comprehensive way of life in Duplje since the 18th century.

The quest took us in Udin Boršt (forest), a conglomeric terrace dating from the Ice Age that lies between Kranj, Tržič and Naklo.

 

In the first half of 19th Century, when we were under French authority, the military service lasted 7-14 years, therefore men escaped into the forests and they were called brigands (rokovnjači), since they had to steal in order to survive.
