Austria: Backcountry Skiing - Schilchegg

Some parts in Austria have quite a lot of snow, so a couple of us gathered in Lesce with our backcountry skiing equipment. We loaded 2 vans and soon we were on our way to Flachauwinkl. We parked our vehicles near Pleissling creek where we prepared ourselves for a nice day on skis. The route started on flat terrain, first along the Pleissling creek and later along Marbach. In Vordere Marbachalm we left the main road and the steeper ascent began. We followed the ski trail in front of us and soon we realised, that this wasn't such a good idea, since the guys who made it, made a wrong turn, so we had to advance through the steep forest and some rocky parts. We were all happy, when we came back to the road in Ranstalm. We regrouped and the rest of the ascent to Schilchegg, 2034 m, was easy. On the sunny top we admired the neighbouring peaks and after a while we decided to return. First half of the skiing was amazing, and we all enjoyed it, while the other half followed the road back to the valley. We finished the day with a beer and Austrian ski hits - youtube.

Easy and quite flat start

The valley with many backcountry skiing options

We followed the trail from previous skiers straight into the forest. At least we had a good training making turns with the skis.

Back to normal route.

Just above Ranstalm.
Great sunny day.

Ranstalm

Still many unspoiled options for skiing.

White snow and larch trees.

Boštjan and Tomaž were leading the group.

Nearby peak called Benzegg, 2076 m.

Last meters below the summit.

Faulkogel in the middle with 2654 m.

We saw many "dots" moving up.

Spacey peak.

The valley where we had our previous ski tour - Taferlnock - 14877.

Fixing the issues with ski boots. Just needed to fix the socks.

Tuši and Nada.

Our group: Nadja, Andreja, Rok, Vanja, Boštjan, Tuši, Nada and Tomaž
