Austria: Backcountry skiing - Hilmersberg and Mohar

For New Year's Day Nada and me decided to do some backcountry skiing. We had a short drive to Sadnighaus, 1876m, where we put on our skis. Wide snowy terrains above tree line offered many options how to reach the top of Hilmersberg, 2673 m, and we just chose one of them. After a photo session on the top, Nada and me separated. Her plan was to go back to the hut, while I conquered another peak in the vicinity called Mohar, 2605 m. We both finish our tour with the beer in Sadnighaus.

Good morning from our apartment

Start of the trip. We followed one of the roads for a while.

One of many nice huts on our way.

View to Mohar, 2605 m.

Nice destination for beginners.

Nice cloudless day.

One of the last houses.

Below the ridge

Almost there, or maybe not.

The below the top land flattened.

From the top we could see the highest Austrian peak, Veliki Klek

Our plan for tomorrow, Stellkopf, 2855 m

I am actually pointing to Stellkopf.

Nada and Tuši, Stöckli and Völkl.

View from Mohar, 2605 m.

Awesome day. Peak was conquered on foot, since there wasn't enough snow on some parts.

Summit of Mohar with Tuši.

Leaving the peak.

Skiing part was fun but demanding, mostly because of the crusty surface with some patches of wind blown powder.

Cheers to a successful day.

Back to our cosy apartment in the Asten Valley.

Dinner time.

Great start into 2020 with 2 peaks - Garmin Connect
