Austria: Backcountry Skiing - Straßkopf

In the morning I quickly explored the Zgornja Bela, found a geocache and after breakfast we were on our way to our new skiing day. Our initial plan fell into the water, since the road was closed, so we picked another destination. It was Straßkopf from Penzelberg. Easy backcountry skiing was spiced up with windy, cold and foggy weather, so the major issue was orientation. Nobody got lost, so in the end it was another great day on the snow.

The Roman Catholic parish church is dedicated to St. Martin .

The settlement of Velach was first mentioned in a 10th-century deed issued by the Bishop Abraham of Freising (d. 993/94), a Bavarian missionary among the East Alpine Slavs in the Duchy of Carinthia (former Carantania), known for the Slovene Freising manuscripts. The name is derived from Slavic bela ("white").

After a long drive we arrived to our starting point

I had the windy, cold and foggy peak for myself.
