Sweden: StockholmSöder

Today we decided to have a more easy day without too much thinking, so we joined one of the organised free tours (http://freetourstockholm.com/) in Stockholm. Since we already visited the Gamla stan (Old Town), we chose a Söder Tour, that took us to the Södermalm (South Island), an island with historic cottages and neighborhoods mingled with newly built urban apartment buildings. Main topics that we covered on our tour were: witchery, do kids lie, executioners, Millennium and Late Daddys.

Previous days of our "Stockholm" trip: Day 2, Day 1.

Fatbursparken with striking ornaments and sculptures that were installed as part of a citywide art project.

View from Katarinahissen (“The Katarina Elevator”)

Our guided tour started in front of the old court house, close to Stockholm's sailor's home (Stockholms sjömanshem). The old courthouse is now a Stockholm City Museum, but in the past, still in 17th century, they executed witches here.

View to the Old Town - Gamla stan

Another island - Skeppsholmen

Katarina kyrka (Church of Catherine) burned down twice, in 1723 and 1990

Left: In this area some children testified that they were abducted regularly, they even testified against their mothers to be the witches. Since kids don't lie many mothers were executed. In the end the court realised, that the kids were lying, so the kids were also executed. Read more about Torsåker witch trials and witch Malin Matsdotter. Right: We also listened to the story about an executioner Master Michael with 15 years of experience who ended his life the way he lived it - he was executed because of the murder he committed.

In 1677, all the priests in the country were ordered to tell their congregations in the churches that the witches had been expelled from the country forever to avoid further witch trials.

Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's Mosque used to be a power plant, which was already built in "Moorish" Islamic architecture in its original version.

Left: We continued with our walk in the area and we found many Latte Dads (latte-pappor in Swedish), dads with coffee and strollers. Right: Stockholm has many churches, but they are mostly empty during ceremonies - Maria Magdalena kyrka.

Another photo of the Gamla Stan, until 1980 officially Staden mellan broarna (The Town between the Bridges).

Bellmansgatan 1, where Mikael Blomqvist, the main protagonist of the Millennium Trilogy, lived. It is a house where you enter the building on the top floor. Our tour finished and I must say it was brilliant.

Soon it started to rain a bit and it became windy and cold, so we decided to go on the metro and we set the random destination. Our choice was Mörby centrum, where we decided to grab a cache and have lunch. We found a nice spot on the nearby rocks.

GeoCaches found (all received a visit by trackable item "Bockereyders Geocoin", TB71XQW):
