Sweden: StockholmThe Rolling Stones

The legends decided to perform again and with Nada we decided to go to their concert. They had a concert nearby, but since we were on holiday at that time, we had to find another option. We checked the venues, where we have relatives and what are the transportation costs and the far best option was Stockholm. 5 months ago we already bought the tickets for the gig and our flight and today the concert day finally came.

As mentioned in previous post (14027), we were stationed near Tumba, urban area some 20 kilometers from the Stockholm city centre. Adela and Srbo were our hosts and in the morning they left the house to us, so we prepared ourselves a great breakfast and then we went out. Our plan for today was to visit the city centre and its major attractions, Fotografiska (The Swedish Museum of Photography) and of course the concert of the Rolling Stones.

Through the forest to the train station

72-hour public transport ticket is a superb buy. You can use almost all means of transportation and the public transport is just perfect here in Stockholm, works even at night. Price is 25,19 €.

Left: Construction of the current Klara Church (Klara kyrka) church started in 1572 under king Johan III. Right: Activities on Sergel's Square (Sergels torg), the most central public square in Stockholm, named after 18th-century sculptor Johan Tobias Sergel, whose workshop was once located north of the square.

Through Kungsträdgården (King's Garden), one of the most popular hangouts and meeting places in Stockholm.

Left: Statue of Karl XIII (7 October 1748 – 5 February 1818), King of Sweden and King of Norway. Right: Statue of Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden (9 December 1594 – 6 November 1632), king of Sweden from 1611 to 1632, credited as the founder of Sweden as a Great Power.

Tuši and Nada in front of Riksdagshuset (Parliament House), constructed between 1897 and 1905.

The Royal Guards has guarded the palace and the Royal Family since 1523.

Stockholms slott (Stockholm Palace) is the official residence and major royal palace of the Swedish monarch. Its construction started in 1697 and was finished in 1760.

The eastern facade, represents "The Female Qualities" and the Queen.

We visited the narrowest alley Mårten Trotzigs gränd in the city along with some others in Gamla Stan (The Old Town) on an island called Stadsholmen. The draymen (Draymen's house in the middle), Sweden's last active guild, were licensed to distribute wines and spirits.

Stortorget (The Big Square) is is the oldest square in Stockholm, the historical centre on which the medieval urban conglomeration gradually came into being.

We also visited a Photography Museum called Fotografiska (entrance fee = 14,17 €). First and the most interesting exhibition we saw was Paul Hansen's Being There, representing sad stories from all sides of the world, caused by nature and people.

After the refreshment (low voltage beer), we checked the Stadsgårdshissen, the green lift, made for workers in the harbor. It was opened in 1907 and closed in 1971.

Ticket for the concert - 111,48 €. One of the last chances to see them performing live.

Rain can't bother us here, the stadium has a roof.

The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London, England in 1962. The first stable line-up consisted of Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica), Mick Jagger (lead vocals), Keith Richards (guitar, backing vocals), Bill Wyman (bass), Charlie Watts (drums), and Ian Stewart (piano). Stewart was removed from the official line-up in 1963 but continued as a touring member until his death in 1985. Jones left the band less than a month prior to his death in 1969, having already been replaced by Mick Taylor, who remained until 1974. After Taylor left the band, Ronnie Wood took his place in 1975 and has been on guitar in tandem with Richards ever since.

Charlie Watts (76), Ronnie Wood (70), Keith Richards (73) and Mick Jagger (74) made a spectacular show for us.
