Austria / Slovenia: Wörthersee without cars and 18th Hrast Memorial
As part of the event "Carinthia on bicycle", the authorities closed the road around Wörthersee (Vrbsko jezero) and with Nada we decided to do a 44 kilometres long circle around it. To spice things up a little bit, we decided to start and return from my home.
Cycling around Wörthersee
Instead of 44 we did more than 100 kilometres
After a quick lunch at home we visited the event called Hrast memorial, a race, where riders compete with old motorbikes, in many cases older than the riders themselves.
Starting point of the race, Ljubelj (1058 m) and on the photo, finish point, Koča na Ljubelju mountain hut (1370 m). |
Forever Young
The most interesting part is the race with motorcycles with sidecars.
The oldest motorbike in the race was Indian Scout, built in 1924 with 606 ccm, and the oldest rider was his owner, Jožef Komljanec, born in 1937.
The fastest man on the track was Bine Štern with BSA Metise, built in 1959. His time was 2:38:28. Very good for 2300 m long track with 300 m altitude difference.
Results: Overall results of 6 categories and Special categories results.
