AustriaSlovenia: Waterfall Podkanjski slap and Nada's BD

With a drop of 54 meters, the Podkanjski slap (Wildenstein Waterfall) is one of the highest free-falling waterfalls in Europe. The waterfall is named after the ruins of Wildenstein Castle above it, which are said to have been destroyed in the Friuli earthquake of 1348. Nada, Bronco, and I visited it on Nada’s birthday, and it was a nice overture (Garmin Connect) to the evening celebration.

The Handwerksmuseum in Wildenstein is a local craft museum showcasing historical tools, equipment, and artifacts connected to traditional rural life and old craftsmanship.

Unfortunately it is open only during the summer season, so we will visit it next time.

After a short walk, we arrived to the impressing waterfall.

You can admire it from all angles.

That's us, Nada, Tuši and Bronco.

Playing with the camera.

Tuši on the left and right.

Nada tried also the pose in the middle.

Celebration time in the evening.

Happy Birthday Nada.

Slovenia: Koča na Dobrči mountain hut

Nada is enjoying her new eMTB, so we've been doing mixed trips to the nearby hills - Nada on the bike, while Bronco and I go on foot. Today, Bronco and I drove to Brezje pri Tržiču and hiked to Koča na Dobrči mountain hut, while Nada rode there on her eMTB, called Škot. After spending two hours at the top, Bronco and I headed straight home, while Nada descended back to the car - Garmin Connect.

View to Ljubljana Basin.

We met at the top.

Nada doesn't care about the snow.

We went our separate ways.

Less walked trail is awesome for Bronco, as he can't scare other dogs and people that much.

Back in our village.

We were behind that hill.

Slovenia: Prelaz Ljubelj

In the evening Nada and me attended the 4th traditional neighborhood Gathering on Prelaz Ljubelj. 5 families gathered again and once more we had a great evening, celebrating also the Rudolf Maister Day, that is celebrated on 23 November. On this day in 1918, Rudolf Maister and his army disarmed the German security forces and dissolved them, an action that led to the annexation of a large part of the Slovene speaking regions of Styria and Carinthia to Slovenia.

Previous gatherings: 3rd - 2023 - 16260, 2nd - 2022 - 15896, 1st - 2020 - 14853.

Late afternoon hike to Prelaz Ljubelj.

Start (or end) of the Košuta ridge.

Our neighbourhood on the way to the top.

Sunset.

Our juniors.

Waiting for the food.

And soon we were able to attack the specialties.

One more photo before we went back to the valley - Garmin Connect.

Slovenia: MTB - Juliana Bike - Stage 7 - Podbrdo - Bohinjska Bistrica

After the morning hike with Bronco to Kršiše (Garmin Connect), Nada, Baki and me went mountain biking. We chose Stage 7 of the Juliana Bike Trail for our ride. The logistics were easy: we drove to Bohinjska Bistrica and from there took the train to Podbrdo, where we started our cycling trip. We passed through Zgornja Sorica, reached Bohinjsko sedlo, and then descended to the cold northern side of Črna prst, ending up back in Bohinjska Bistrica. After enjoying a beer with my co-worker Žan, we continued to Begunje na Gorenjskem for some food before heading home - Garmin Connect.

Bikes on the train.

From Baška Grapa to the village of Sorica.

The old road had nice gravel steepness.

Back on the asphalt road, where the traffic sign said, just go on.

Tuši was the only one on the normal bike.

Zgornja Sorica.

The direction was simple: upwards.

Real nature‑based artworks by the Slovenian painter Mohor Kejžar in the forest above Sorica.

Baki.

Last meters on the sunny side of the mountains.

And last meters for my Black Mamba and me.

Nada, Tuši and Baki.

We descended on the cold Bohinj side.

A little warmth over the Planina Strmne and Planina Vresje mountain pastures.

Food at Begunje na Gorenjskem.
